Wisconsin Do Not Call List

Avoid Telemarketing Calls With No Call Registry

Aug 31, 2009 Victoria Nicks

The Wisconsin Do Not Call List is kept by the WIS Dept. of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection. Registering via telephone or online prevents telemarketing calls.

Unwanted telemarketing calls can be a nuisance. The state of Wisconsin's Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection maintains the Wisconsin Do Not Call List, also known as the Wisconsin No Call List. This list is a compilation of residents who wish to avoid receiving telemarketer calls. There are limitations to the No Call List, but signing up is a simple process.

Signing Up for the Wisconsin No Call List

The process of signing up for the Wisconsin No Call List requires only a toll-free telephone call, or filling out an online form. To register via the telephone, simply call the Do Not Call Registry at 1-866-9NO-CALL, and follow the voice prompts. This number can only be reached from phones within Wisconsin. To register from a location outside Wisconsin, register online.

The Wisconsin Do Not Call List online registry form is available 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays. The form requests personal information, including telephone number, name, email address, physical address, and zip code. The only information required to sign up for the list, however, is telephone number and zip code.

Membership in the Do Not Call List is provided by the state of Wisconsin at no charge for residents. Registration remains in effect for two years, unless rescinded by the resident. Removing a telephone number from the No Call List requires the resident to send a request in writing to the No Call Program.

Limitations of the Wisconsin Do Not Call List

The list compiled for the protection of Wisconsin consumers has some limitations.

  • Due to the quarterly updates, and registration deadlines, it can take several months for a phone number to appear on the No Call List
  • Residents must reapply for the list every two years
  • Businesses cannot apply for the Do Not Call List - even a home business is exempt from the protection of this service
  • The Do Not Call List does not stop all telemarketing calls

Calls Exempt From The Do Not Call List

There are some types of calls that are exempt from the Wisconsin No Call List. For example, a call from a business that is currently doing business with a consumer, or that has received a request for information from that consumer, is not prevented by this list. In addition, communication from non-profit organizations, including solicitation for donations, is not covered by the No Call List.

Do Not Call Registration Deadlines

The Do Not Call list in Wisconsin is updated quarterly. In order to have a phone number included in the update, a consumer must register by the deadline for that update. Missing the deadline by a single day is enough to delay the inclusion of the phone number by an additional four months.

  • To be included in the update that takes place January 1st, consumers must submit their request prior to December 1st
  • To be included in the update that takes place on April 1st, consumers must submit their request prior to March 1st
  • To be included in the update that takes place July 1st, consumers must submit their request prior to June 1st
  • To be included in the update that takes place on October 1st, consumers must submit their request prior to September 1st
